The Reform UK leader Claims Teachers of ‘Indoctrinating Children’ on Race Issues
The political figure stated that educators would initiate walkouts within weeks a success at the polls for his party, charging that they are “harming young minds” by telling students that African-Caribbean youth are oppressed and Caucasian students are perpetrators.
At a gathering for a Michigan-based religious institution, the politician expressed his perspective on British schools, stating that the “Marxist left” had “taken over schooling”.
“I expect a teachers’ strike very quickly after securing a victory,” Farage commented in response to questions.
“They are poisoning our kids. They instruct children to be ashamed of their country. They inform an eight-year-old black child that he is oppressed and a white child of the same age that he is a perpetrator. They are dividing us, not uniting us. They promote this negative culture.”
In response to Farage’s claims, Daniel Kebede dismissed the notion that the education system was controlled by Marxists as “absurd”. He pointed out that any strikes must relate to teachers’ terms and conditions, and doubted whether the party would target these right after taking office.
“Farage has built his public life on dog-whistle politics and currently, similar to other figures, he is lining up teachers and their organizations for a conflict,” Kebede stated.
“I think that’s grossly irresponsible. I don’t – and nor does my union – advocate such divisive theories as he claims … If he were to lead the government he would undermine state services, including education … and the outcome would be catastrophic for education and children.”
The party, which is leading the polls by about 10 points, has provided limited specifics on its educational plans and seems not to have appointed an education spokesperson.
However, his comments indicated the party would overhaul the system and the curriculum. He said: “We have got a massive job with schooling – absolutely herculean. Moreover, it won’t happen quickly; it will take us years, years to turn this around.”
He stated that younger generations are receptive to analytical thought, but millennials were “absolutely hopeless”.
Honoring a conservative activist, Farage said: “All I want education to do to teach critical thinking – to educate individuals that there are two points of view and you make up your own mind as opposed to what’s happening now where one is virtuous and one is evil. This is a huge undertaking in both Britain and America.”
The party has conflicted with the UK’s largest teaching union, after Kebede called the party “extremist and prejudiced” and dismissed Farage as “a cheap imitation”.
The politician has charged Kebede of being “an avowed radical” … an individual intent that young minds be corrupted through education, their minds should be poisoned regarding national issues” and has argued that the union is trying to indoctrinate teenagers against Reform.
Roughly a million individuals are employed in education in the UK, with educators comprising half and the others teaching assistants and support staff. The leading teachers’ organization has hundreds of thousands of members.
National strikes over educators’ salaries and work environment in 2023 led to significant interruptions in educational institutions and extensive missed instruction for children.
At the US event, Farage also vowed to promote the digital courses of the institution in the UK. He stated such groups were “key to resistance”, adding that: “I mean this. I will help attract vast numbers of youth to these educational programs. I make that commitment now and I will follow through.”
The institution, a small private Christian college, provides complimentary classes. According to its online description: “A scientific, literary, theological, political, and moral education is necessary for personal happiness and to perpetuate the blessings of freedom. The college furnishes these excellent programs for no charge to all who wish to learn.”
