Slot Asserts He Is Secure and Has Liverpool's Support After PSV Defeat
Arne Slot conceded that it's natural for concerns to be asked about his position after another heavy defeat versus the Dutch champions.
The Reds suffered their 9th loss in 12 games, representing the club's worst run after being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were dominated by the Dutch league champions on a tough night at Anfield.
“I'm confident, I am OK, I have got significant support from the top,” Slot remarked.
“It would be nice to turn it around and earn three points of course but if you are coaching a team and struggling then it is normal that questions are asked.”
He continued, “I am OK with my role. This isn't the first time I've found myself in a challenging situation but it is about time that we changed our fortunes.”
Discussions with The Board
When asked to expand on his dialogues with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot said:
“We communicate frequently. They assist for the squad and for me and we have those conversations but they don't phone me constantly of the day to say they back me.”
He further stated, “During our regular conversations we have I feel the confidence. But I've not talked to them since this match yet so let’s see.”
Recurring Problems and Squad Response
Slot highlighted recurring weaknesses from his Liverpool side in their Champions League defeat, namely poor finishing and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, player Jones was blunter in his assessment of the club’s predicament.
“I haven't got the answers. Frankly, I don’t. I'm telling that to everybody,” the midfielder remarked.
“It is not good enough. I don't have to wait to consider it. I'm beyond getting mad internally. I've reached the stage currently where I simply lack the words.”
He added, “It's tough because I’m playing for the club I love. I support them, and I’ve seen Liverpool since I was young.”
“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Reds side going through a spell of this nature with outcomes so bad.”
He stated, “However we still have the emblem on our chest. And as long as that badge is removed, we'll continue to fight.”
“Our aim is to bring this squad back to its rightful place, show everyone again the values of this club and why people call it the top club in the world.”
“However currently, things are bad and we have to turn it around.”
